The ‘golden hour’ is the prime time to take photographs - just after sunrise and just before sunset when warmth, low contrast, and softer shadows all contribute to the beauty of a photograph. More indirect light comes from the illumination of the sky rather than the harsh light of the sun during the day. As a result, overexposure is unlikely and there is more uniform, balanced lighting on the subject. This is critical to understand in fashion photography and can really make a difference in the quality of your photographs.
The sunsets in St. John were stunning and it really didn’t matter what I wore. The outfit is understated and simple to let the background be the focus. A few golden accents, like my new favorite Oliver Bonas necklace, help bring it all together, for a balanced composition and a fun play on words for the title of this post.
