The screen – the ‘soft’ boundary that separates, protects and conceals. Screens are used a lot in architecture to divide spaces while still allowing light, air, and sound to permeate from one space to another. Trees also serve as screens in a landscape to provide a sense of enclosure that is less harsh, or softer than a hard wall. This ASOS crop top is also a screen that shelters the body while still allowing the body to breath. Utilizing lasercutting technology creates what’s called ‘cutwork,’ also known as Punto Tagliato in Italian, a positive-negative grid pattern that’s both chic and comfortable. Combining the best of form and function through simple design strategies such as screening allows a design to surpass aesthetics and what’s required in order to enhance the user experience.
