One of my favorite professors at the University of Virginia was Sanda Iliescu. She educated me on the vast parallels between art and architecture, and their public role in society. Her ability to see beauty in everything, and reveal this through making art that is socially, ethically, and morally engaging has been very influential to my architectural education and practice. Furthermore, she introduced me to the beauty of grain silos, abstractly depicted in this painting. Sometimes the banal can be beautiful, and it is our role as designers to reveal this to the public.
