What defines a city?

There are certainly several driving environmental, economic and cultural forces that define a city, but urban planners and architects often look at the pure physical aspects of urbanism to understand the character of a city. For example, various types of buildings, thoroughfares, frontages, open spaces and streetscapes can all contribute to the city feel in a unique way, collectively forming what we call 'urban fabric.'

Similarly, I believe that fashion designers must do the same when assembling an individual garment or outfit.

Clothing can be constructed with so many different techniques in order to create a variety of shapes, forms, lengths, fabrics, fits, patterns, colors, etc. While an individual garment may have its own character, it is the appropriate pairing of items in an outfit, in this case the peplum top and the pleated dress, that creates the richness embodied in an urban fabric.
